How to open an HTML file on Android or iPhone
Phones aren't great at opening downloaded .html files. Depending on the phone, you may see raw code, a blank page, or a "no app can open this" message. Here's what works.
Easiest way: turn it into a linkUpload the file here and open the link in your browser.
Upload the HTML file
How to do it
- Open DropMyPage in your phone's browser.
- Tap Tap to choose a file and pick the .html file from Downloads or Files.
- Tap Create link, then open the link: the page shows properly, scripts included.
Other ways on Android
- Some file manager apps offer "Open with" → Chrome, though newer Android versions often block browsers from opening local files.
- An HTML viewer app can show the code or a basic preview.
Other ways on iPhone
- In the Files app, tapping an .html file may show a simple preview, but scripts and some styles may not work.
- You can't open local files directly in Safari's address bar.
Want to see the code too?
Paste it into the HTML viewer to see the code and the page side by side.
Questions
Why do I only see code?
The app that opened the file treats it as text. A browser needs to load it as a web page, which is what a link does.
Is it safe to open an HTML file someone sent me?
Be careful with files from people you don't know: a page can try to trick you into typing passwords. DropMyPage runs pages in a sandbox and blocks pages with password fields.
